This is a top-quality piece of Siberian woolly mammoth ivory (Mammuthus primigenius). Part of this cross-cut section is usually hidden from view, since it sits deep within the skull (pulp cavity). The ivory is rock-solid despite the cracks. The colour of the ivory is white. The colour of the outer layer of bark is brown.
Geological epoch: Pleistocene.
Age: Over 10,000 years.
Origin: Sakha Republic (Yakutia).
